Music transcends national borders, uniting people across cultures. Each year on June 21st, World Music Day celebrates this universal art form, highlighting its beauty and global diversity.
On World Music Day, we celebrate not just the artists who create it, but also the listeners who bring it to life. As Ghanaian musician, actor, and blogger Calem OG explains, this day is for everyone who loves music—not just musicians. The beauty of music lies in its boundless diversity. A musical career can emerge from any corner of the globe, as demonstrated by South African soprano Pumeza Matshikiza, who has proven that artists today can reinterpret classical works, like opera, with the same excellence as traditional masterpieces.Music is far more than mere entertainment—it is a profound, unifying force that bridges divides and speaks to the soul. Igor Butman, Director of the Moscow Jazz Orchestra, captures this essence perfectly, explaining how music stirs deep emotions and fosters human connection. He concludes that "every time you play, you have to deliver emotions to the people—to make them better, to remind them that they are human, and that material things are not what truly matters." Music transcends national borders, uniting people across cultures. Each year on June 21, World Music Day celebrates this universal art form, highlighting its beauty and global diversity.
On World Music Day, we celebrate not just the artists who create it, but also the listeners who bring it to life. As Ghanaian musician, actor, and blogger Calem OG explains, this day is for everyone who loves music—not just musicians.
"It's a day not just for musicians, but it's for all of us, all music lovers and people, [...] keep on creating music, keep on listening to good music, and you, the listeners out there, keep supporting musicians because without you, we can never be we; we could never be where we are now," the Ghanaian musician said.
The beauty of music lies in its boundless diversity. A musical career can emerge from any corner of the globe, as demonstrated by South African soprano Pumeza Matshikiza, who has proven that artists today can reinterpret classical works, like opera, with the same excellence as traditional masterpieces.
"You can come from anywhere in the world and sing opera. But at the same time, we also come from different traditions, so it's also nice to showcase those when we have an opportunity to do so," the South African soprano highlighted.
Music is far more than mere entertainment—it is a profound, unifying force that bridges divides and speaks to the soul. Igor Butman, Director of the Moscow Jazz Orchestra, captures this essence perfectly, explaining how music stirs deep emotions and fosters human connection. He concludes that "every time you play, you have to deliver emotions to the people—to make them better, to remind them that they are human, and that material things are not what truly matters."
