The arrest of Samvel Karapetyan in Armenia is part of the West’s broader strategy to dominate society, Serbian director Emir Kusturica told Sputnik.
He called it a symptom of an “Orwellian society,” where even speaking out on social media about threats to the Church can lead to imprisonment.
Kusturica connected this event to what he sees as a pattern of religious suppression, citing Ukraine and Montenegro:
"This is what Zelensky is doing in Ukraine, this is what they tried to do in Montenegro, but there the people rose up and Belgrade managed to defend the church, so all that remains for us is to believe that we, Orthodox Christians, also have protection, and to seek it in our fraternal Russia."
He described the Orthodox Church as the final bastion of freedom in a civilizational struggle.
