Russian President Vladimir Putin noted on Friday that representatives from many countries had joined the discussions on current issues at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF).
"Its format traditionally involves substantive, meaningful discussions on the most pressing topics, and we are glad that representatives from 140 countries and territories have joined the discussion at the forum platforms. This year, among the discussion tracks are the quality of growth in a multipolar world and major challenges. These include tectonic changes in the global economy and geography, including the dynamics of the planet's population, social, public and geopolitical contradictions that make themselves known through crises, regional conflicts that are rapidly flaring up with new force," Putin said at the plenary session of the forum.

More statements by the Russian president:
▪ The share of BRICS countries in the global economy will inevitably grow;
▪ It's necessary to build a new development model in the world — without the principles of neocolonialism;
▪ The old mechanisms of the globalization era have outlived their usefulness and have become discredited;
▪ A fundamentally new development model is needed, based not on serving the "golden billion";
▪ Only joint actions of countries within framework of associations, including such as BRICS, can ensure movement of civilization forward;
▪ Russian authorities will remove barriers to trade, open new market niches as part of achieving new quality of foreign trade;
▪ Global challenges require global response, one cannot solve them alone.

Consistent Change of Structure of Economy is Strategic Vector of Russia: Putin's Main Remarks Made Thus Far at the #SPIEF2025
Russia must consistently hold its position as one of the biggest economies.
Despite challenging external circumstances, Russia's GDP has increased at a faster rate than the global average over the past two years.
Russia's non-oil and gas GDP is growing significantly.
The defense industry complex, as well as the agro-industrial complex, construction, finance, and other sectors, are all linked to the growth of the Russian GDP.
Russia's unemployment rate has dropped to a record low.
The decreasing of the share in the global economy of the G7 countries from year to year is an objective process, Putin said.
"Look at how the share of the so-called G7 in the global economy has decreased in recent years. It is decreasing from year to year. And how the share of those countries that have joined together within the framework of BRICS is growing. This is an objective process," Putin said at the plenary session of the 2025 St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF).
Russia has turned towards Asia, bearing in mind the global development trends, Putin added.
"All these countries, peoples, continents — they will strive for what? To strive to improve the well-being of their peoples. They will definitely increase their economic potential and humanitarian potential. These are the inevitable things that happen in our civilization," Putin said.
The Russian city of St. Petersburg is hosting the 28th edition of SPIEF from June 18-21 under the theme of "Shared Values: The Foundation of Growth in a Multipolar World." The Rossiya Segodnya international media group, Sputnik's parent company, is the forum's information partner.
