MOSCOW (Sputnik) - Russian President Vladimir Putin held telephone talks with Chinese President Xi Jinping, Kremlin aide Yuri Ushakov said on Thursday.
"By mutual agreement, Russian President Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin has just had a telephone conversation with President of the People's Republic of China Xi Jinping," Ushakov told reporters.
The leaders held a constructive conversation and discussed bilateral relations, the official said.
"Naturally, the leaders moved on to issues on the bilateral agenda. It was emphasized on both sides that during the Chinese president's visit to Moscow in May, new important guidelines were set for further work by governments and relevant departments to strengthen the Russian-Chinese comprehensive strategic partnership," Ushakov said, adding that the presidents expressed satisfaction with the level of bilateral relations.
Putin and Xi discussed the Russian initiatives to create the BRICS investment platform, Ushakov said.
"On the eve of the BRICS summit in Rio de Janeiro in early July, we will hold a summit. The heads of state touched upon the issue of promoting Russian initiatives that were put forward at last year's BRICS summit in Kazan. These initiatives relate, in particular, to the new investment platform. Its task is to promote the economic growth of our countries and partners among representatives of the Global South," Ushakov said.
