Russian Diamond Mining Group & African Counties Develop Common Responsible Diamond Mining Standard
In 2023, Russia received observer status in the African Diamond Producers Association, the head of the international cooperation department of Russia's Alrosa, Petr Karakchiev, recalled on the sidelines of #SPIEF2025.
He noted the importance of both Russian and African diamonds entering world markets based on uniform production requirements.
According to Karakchiev, the single standard would include such issues as:
🟠labor rights,
🟠industrial safety,
🟠careful attitude to the environment,
🟠social responsibility.
Karakchiev stressed the importance of cooperation between Russia and the African Diamond Producers Association, highlighted by recent Kimberley Process events. He noted that the firm stance of African partners has blocked Western attempts to sanction Russian diamonds for three years.
