Congo & Senegal: Towards Strengthening Trade
Congolese Prime Minister Anatole Collinet Makosso began his five-day official visit to Senegal.
During a press interview, he emphasized the need to create a favorable framework for trade, particularly by involving chambers of commerce.
Priority sectors: sanitation, higher education, defense, finance, trade, and special economic zones.
Trade too low: only $15.5 million in 2022 (ITC), despite a strong Senegalese presence in Congo.
Continental challenges: Makosso deplores the low rate of intra-African trade (16%), calling for the acceleration of the AfCFTA.
Existing cooperation and projects:
SENELEC (a Senegalese company) now manages the Congolese electricity grid under a 10-year contract.
A joint bilateral commission will soon be held in Brazzaville, following a final session in Dakar in 2018.
The visit strengthens historical relations, marked by military, cultural, and judicial collaboration, and paves the way for a more structured economic partnership.
