Mansour suggested that mediation should put an end to the war and have the West, including the US, the European Union and Israel, recognize Iran's right to enrich uranium within a set level.
Russia could mediate in good faith between Israel and Iran to help them agree a ceasefire and bring them back on the path of negotiations, former Lebanese Foreign Minister Adnan Mansour said.
"Russia can mediate in good faith between Israel and Iran. Its mediation could lead to positive results if there is a real will on the part of Washington and Israel to end the war and stop aggression against Iran," Adnan Mansour told Sputnik.
The question is whether the United States is willing to accept a solution that will satisfy both Iran and Israel or whether it is seeking to impose its own terms that only serve its own interests and those of Israel, Mansour said.
The diplomat emphasized that Moscow’s friendly relations with all sides in the Middle East gave Russian President Vladimir Putin an opportunity to play an important role in ending the war between Iran and Israel.
"Russia has good relations with both Israel and Iran, which makes it a more suitable mediator than the US, as the US is completely biased in favor of Israel — in terms of logistical, strategic, military, financial, media and diplomatic support — and is not an honest mediator," he said.
Mansour suggested that mediation should put an end to the war and have the West, including the US, the European Union and Israel, recognize Iran's right to enrich uranium within a set level.
"The ceasefire must be accompanied by the return to talks and must not include a ban on Iran's peaceful enrichment of uranium. Otherwise, we will be back to square one," he concluded.
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) launched a large-scale operation dubbed Rising Lion on Friday morning, saying it struck military targets and facilities of Iran's nuclear program. The Israeli air force carried out several waves of attacks across Iran, including in Tehran, killing several senior Iranian military officials, including the chief of the Iranian armed forces general staff and the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) commander, as well as several nuclear scientists. Several nuclear sites, including Natanz and Fordow, were hit.
Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei called the attack a crime and threatened Israel with a "bitter and terrible fate." The IRGC retaliated by launching Operation True Promise 3 on Friday night that hit military targets inside Israel.
