Chad at 'Breaking Point' as UN Warns 1.5 Million Urgently Need Clean Water

Many are receiving only 5 liters daily, far below the 15-liter standard, according to Humanitarian Coordinator Francois Batalingaya.

This critical water shortage, combined with severe overcrowding and unsanitary conditions, has sparked fears of a major cholera outbreak, with cases already detected near refugee centers.

The crisis is driven by a massive influx of refugees from Sudan:

Over 850,000 new refugees have arrived since the Sudan war began.
Nearly 300,000 are stranded at the border without shelter, water, or medical care.
Refugees arrive "traumatized, hungry, and with nothing," reporting atrocities.

Compounding the emergency, Chad's lean season has left 3.3 million people facing food insecurity – a 400% increase from a decade ago.

Batalingaya issued an urgent "S.O.S." call, emphasizing that without immediate action and funding, lives will be lost.
