Egypt Delays Grand Egyptian Museum Opening Amid Rising Middle East Tensions
Citing growing military tensions between Israel and Iran, Egypt’s Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly announced on Saturday that the current regional climate is not conducive to hosting a major international event.
Originally scheduled for July 3, the inauguration is now pushed to the fourth quarter of 2025—with a new date to be announced based on regional developments. Madbouly explained the decision was made to ensure the event achieves "proper global momentum" in a "suitable atmosphere," warning the regional tension could persist for weeks.
The Grand Egyptian Museum, located near the Giza Pyramids, is set to become the world's largest archaeological museum dedicated to a single civilization and will house approximately 57,000 artifacts.
