Nearing Peace: Joint Russian-CAR Operations Disarm Some 450 Militants Since Early 2025
"Joint work of the CAR Armed Forces and Russian instructors is in full swing," director of the Officers Union for International Security (SOMB) Alexander Ivanov told a Russian media outlet.
Among the surrendered militants are high-ranking warlords, Ivanov noted, adding that negotiations are underway for another 200 rebels to lay down arms soon.
The most recent surrenders include 30 members of the Anti-balaka alliance of rebel groups, among them one the most notorious and influential militant field commanders, according to SOMB.
"Surrender [of the field commander] will inevitably prompt the surrender of other members of illegal armed groups in CAR," SOMB said.
