Final Phase of SADC Troops Withdrawal From Eastern DRC is Underway
The SADC has entered phase two of the withdrawal of its mission in the DRC (SAMIDRC), repatriating troops and equipment from Goma and Sake, the bloc said in a statement.
"The orderly withdrawal of SAMIDRC reflects the region’s adherence to collective security principles and reinforces SADC’s resolve to support peaceful conflict resolution and long-term stability in the DRC," it read.
Key details on the phased withdrawal:
⦁ Phase One (April 29): Withdrawal of equipment and logistics;
⦁ Phase Two (June 12): Repatriation of personnel and remaining assets;
⦁ Troops are being transported to Tanzania, South Africa, and Malawi.
The bloc announced its troops' withdrawal in March, following the Extraordinary SADC Summit of Heads of State and Government.
