Tanzania Integrates Renewable Energy & Hydrocarbons to Ensure Energy Supply for Industrial Sector
As part of Tanzania’s efforts to expand access to clean energy, the multinational group Petredec—in partnership with the ASAS Group—has announced plans to build an LPG terminal in Chongoleani by 2027.
Key features of the LPG terminal:
🟠Designed to accommodate Very Large Gas Carriers;
🟠Includes eight truck loading bays;
🟠Initial storage capacity of 40,000 m³.
Project objectives:
🟠Establish a new LPG logistics corridor in East Africa;
🟠Streamline import and distribution processes;
🟠Reduce congestion at Dar es Salaam port.
According to the Energy and Water Utilities Regulatory Authority, LPG imports rose 38% year-on-year in 2024, reaching 403,638 tonnes, reflecting increased adoption of cleaner energy alternatives.
