It's Time for Africa to Take Control — Of the Narrative, Data, and AI, Zimbabwean Official Says
"Africa needs to arise to the fact that it has to write its own story," secretary for presidential affairs Tafadzwa Muguti told Sputnik Africa on the sidelines of Russia's Global Digital Forum.
The official noted that too often, global discourse focuses on corruption, poor leadership, and conflict — ignoring Africa's vast wealth, like:
⦁ highest uranium reserves;
⦁ largest oil reserves;
⦁ third-largest platinum reserves (in Zimbabwe).
To change the story, Africa must:
⦁ control data;
⦁ revolutionize AI to serve Africa;
⦁ build its own tech infrastructure.
The narrative must shift through a cultural transformation in Africa, reshaping algorithms to prioritize positive stories about African countries instead of the negative ones that are simply "sold more," he emphasized.
