Putin Sends Eid al-Adha Greetings to Russia's Muslim Community
MOSCOW (Sputnik) - Along with Eid al-Fitr, Eid al-Adha is the second of Islam's two major holidays. It occurs on the tenth day of Dhu al-Hijja, which is the Islamic calendar's twelfth and last month. The three days that follow—known as the Tashreeq days—are typically used for celebrations and observances.
Russian President Vladimir Putin on Friday congratulated Russia's Muslim community on Eid al-Adha, highlighting the holiday's role in connecting believers with their rich historical and spiritual heritage.
"This holiday, which marks the culmination of the pilgrimage to sacred religious sites, unites people and gives believers the joy of joining the richest historical and spiritual heritage of their ancestors. Following their fatherly precepts and traditions, Muslims celebrate Eid al-Adha with kind and merciful deeds, sincerely caring for those in need," Putin said in a statement published by the Kremlin.
Putin also commended Muslim organizations for their active role in Russian society, particularly in youth education, strengthening family values and advancing large-scale initiatives in culture, education and charity.
He expressed special gratitude for their support of the country's military personnel and their families, calling it a "deeply recognized" contribution.
