MOSCOW (Sputnik) - The head of the village council said bodies of civilians retrieved from what remained of the village showed signs of torture and rape. Many had broken limbs and rib cages. Those who escaped the village said entire families had been killed by Ukrainian drones.
No one survived the Ukrainian occupation of the western Russian village of Russkoe Porechnoe in the Kursk Region, Elena Zhadanova, head of the Porechensky village council in Sudzhansky district, said on Thursday.
"At the time the villages of Russkoe Porechnoe and Cherkasskoe Porechnoe were liberated [in March 2025], out of 81 people who remained there 48 have died, 24 people remain missing… All in all, no one in the village of Russkoe Porechnoe survived," Zhadanova said during an international teleconference.
The teleconference on the Liberation of the Kursk Region was organized by the Russian Delegation to the Vienna Negotiations on Military Security and Arms Control.
Ukrainian troops invaded Kursk border areas in early August 2024, prompting Russia to launch a large-scale counteroffensive. On April 26, Russian Chief of the General Staff Valery Gerasimov announced that the Kursk Region was fully liberated.
