AU Slams US Travel Ban on African Countries, Calls for 'More Consultative Approach'
The AU Commission has reacted to the latest US travel restrictions, urging a "balanced, evidence-based" strategy of protecting US borders that honors decades of partnership.
"The commission remains concerned about the potential negative impact of such measures on people-to-people ties, educational exchange, commercial engagement, and the broader diplomatic relations," it noted.
On Thursday, Trump imposed a travel ban on 12 countries, seven of which are in Africa. He also partially restricted entry into the US for seven countries, three of which are African.
Chad has retaliated by suspending all visas for US citizens, President Deby Itno announced. Somalia, in its turn, through its ambassador to the US, stated it is "ready to engage in dialogue to address the concerns raised."
