The Russian and Nigerian national football teams will meet in a friendly match in Moscow on Friday. The game will start at 8 pm Moscow time, 6 pm Nigerian time.
Russia-Nigeria friendly match is a "great way to show how nations can connect," captain of Nigeria's football team William Paul Troost-Ekong told Sputnik Africa ahead of Friday's friendly match in Moscow.
"Football connects people and brings people together and, I think, shows some of the best things of how humanity should be," the athlete noted.
The game between Russian and Nigerian teams, is "something bigger than football," it is a great way "to enjoy the cultures," he emphasized.
"Tomorrow some people [Russian and Nigerian fans] in the stadium will meet and respect each other and understand that we can have a beautiful game together, and you never know what comes out of that," Troost-Ekong added.
The football player pointed out that a lot of Nigerian fans will come to Moscow's stadium to cheer the national team on.
"We are going to be very proud for us to be representing them, and vice versa for the Russian team, fans that want to see their team play and do their best against Nigeria. So, I think it's a game which isn't always a friendly [one] because in the sporting sense we all want to win, and we approach the game to win," he said.
