Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz has blamed Syria’s transitional president, Ahmed al-Sharaa, for attacks on Israeli territory. Israeli state broadcaster Kan reported that the Tuesday attack was the first shelling of Israel from Syria since former Syrian President Bashar Assad was ousted in December 2024. Meanwhile, Syrian state media reported in the early hours of Wednesday that Israeli strikes on southern Syria caused casualties and significant damage in Daraa Governorate. The attack is a gross violation of Syria's sovereignty and increases tension in the region at a time when de-escalation and peaceful solutions are especially needed, the report added.Syria's armed opposition captured Damascus on December 8, 2024. Bashar Assad stepped down as Syrian president and left the country. On January 29, Ahmed al-Sharaa was declared transitional president.

Israeli Defense Minister Says Syria’s Ahmed al-Sharaa Responsible For Every Rocket Fire
TEL AVIV (Sputnik) - The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said late on Tuesday night that Israeli fighter jets struck weapons in southern Syria after the Israeli military detected two shells fired into the Golan Heights from Syria on Tuesday evening.
Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz has blamed Syria’s transitional president, Ahmed al-Sharaa, for attacks on Israeli territory.
Katz said on Tuesday evening, as quoted by The Times of Israel, that Ahmed al-Sharaa was "directly responsible for every threat and [rocket] fire toward the State of Israel" and that Israel "will not allow a return to the reality of October 7."
The attack is a gross violation of Syria's sovereignty and increases tension in the region at a time when de-escalation and peaceful solutions are especially needed, the report added.
Syria's armed opposition captured Damascus on December 8, 2024. Bashar Assad stepped down as Syrian president and left the country. On January 29, Ahmed al-Sharaa was declared transitional president.
