Zimbabwe Allows to Cull Total of 50 Elephants to Address OverpopulationThe Zimbabwe Parks and Wildlife Management Authority (ZimParks) has issued cull permits to the Save Valley Conservancy, one of Africa's biggest private game reserves.According to ZimParks, the reserve had 2,550 elephants in 2024. However, the reserve's ecological carrying capacity is only 800 elephants.Meat of culled elephants will be distributed to local communities, while ivory will be handed over to the ZimParks for safekeeping.The conservancy has already relocated 200 elephants to other reserves over the past five years in an effort to manage the population of these animals and protect the wildlife habitat.
