Malian Judge to Lead African Court on Human & Peoples' Rights
Modibo Sacko was elected on June 2 during an ordinary session of the court in Arusha, Tanzania, according to a press release from the judicial body. Algerian judge Bensaoula Chafika will join him as vice-president. Their term will span from 2025 to 2027.
Sacko's judicial journey:
🟠In 2021, he entered the court as a judge, laying the foundation for his rise;
🟠In 2023, he was elected vice-president.
His legacy in Mali:
🟠Technical advisor to the Ministry of Justice and Human Rights;
🟠Assistant to the National Financial Information Processing Unit;
🟠Judge at the Supreme Court of Mali.
The African Court on Human and Peoples' Rights, with its 11 judges, is a continental court founded by the African Union.
