Zimbabwe Leader Urges SADC Parliaments to Embrace AI to 'Bridge Gap Between MPs, Citizens'
Speaking at the opening of the 57th SADC Parliamentary Forum in Victoria Falls, Emmerson Mnangagwa stated that AI offers tools for resource optimization.
He added that, crucially, the technology can enable more direct and frequent interaction, leading to more evidence-based policies.
Mnangagwa, who is the current SADC chairman, pointed to Zimbabwe's own AI efforts as an example:
🟠scaling up of digital solutions in governance;
🟠establishment of university innovation hubs;
🟠partnerships to boost digital literacy and research.
He specifically noted Zimbabwe's Cyber and Data Protection Act as a step to regulate data security related to AI.
