Nigeria Aims to Revive Cocoa Sector With Focus on Local Processing & Sustainability
Speaking during a meeting with the World Cocoa Foundation (WCF), Vice President Kashim Shettima outlined plans to:
🟠promote sustainable farming,
🟠protect forests,
🟠add value to cocoa exports.
He also announced the creation of a National Cocoa Management Board, recently approved by the Federal Executive Council, to lead the sector’s revival.
With global cocoa prices surging fourfold in three years, Shettima stressed the need for Nigeria to process more of its beans domestically.
WCF President Chris Vincent expressed confidence in Nigeria’s potential to grow as a responsible and competitive player in the global market.
