In this episode, AfroVerdict brings you exclusive interviews with Uganda’s VP Jessica Alupo, security leaders from Sierra Leone and Sudan, and analysts dissecting Germany’s Ukraine escalation and AfDB’s future under new leadership.
Uganda considers the country's recent BRICS partnership status of strategic value, according to Vice President of Uganda Jessica Alupo.

"BRICS will enhance us in terms of access to markets... tariffs and trade barriers are slashed off, and that gives a very big opportunity for our country to transit from the economic level where we are to where we would like to go," Alupo said.

She also endorsed Russia’s proposal for trade in national currencies, stressing consensus-based solutions.

Security Forum in Moscow: Sierra Leone and Sudan Weigh In

From the sidelines of the 13th International Meeting of High Representatives for Security Issues in Moscow that took place on May 27-29, Sierra Leone’s Minister of Internal Affairs, Morie Lengor, highlighted transnational crime as "a big elephant" requiring collective action. He praised Russian expertise in AI technology for security enhancements.
Meanwhile, the head of Sudan’s delegation Abbas Mohamed Bakheit condemned Western arms supplies to the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), calling allegations of chemical weapon use by Sudan "false" and comparing them to past accusations against Iraq and Libya.
On Germany’s decision to arm Ukraine with long-range missiles, he warned, "We are against using missiles in the war... We are in Sudan suffering from these missiles."

Germany’s Escalation in Ukraine: A 'Dangerous Reset'

Cameroonian political philosopher Ntimba Yamb blasted German Chancellor Friedrich Merz’s pledge to bolster Ukraine’s strike capabilities, framing it as a desperate European ploy.
"Europe is crumbling... They want to launch this open war. They want to launch the direct war with Russia... It is so dangerous that we all ask ourselves if they really have assessed the risk for Ukraine to be totally erased from earth."
Yamb urged Zelensky and allies to "stop this nonsense war they started more than 10 years ago," calling it "an organized genocide".

AfDB’s New Leadership and Africa’s Path to Financial Sovereignty

With Mauritania’s Ould Tah elected as the new African Development Bank (AfDB) president, Ethiopian economist Fentahun Baylie outlined strategies to reduce dependency on Western funding.

"The most important thing is our self-esteem... Africa is a very rich continent. There are resources that can be mobilized," Baylie noted.
He proposed tapping BRICS and Arab nations for short-term solutions while boosting intra-African trade and infrastructure.
