Mali to Own 62% Stake in Gold Refinery Built With Russian Support
This strategic decree was adopted by the Malian Council of Ministers, following the announcement of such cooperation last October.
What is known about the refinery?
▫It will be built in partnership with the Russian company Yadran.
▫It will be located in Bamako.
▫It is expected to process 200 tonnes of gold per year.
Amid a 23% drop in gold production, the project also reportedly aims to:
▪limit raw gold exports;
▪regulate artisanal gold mining (7.7 tonnes produced in 2024);
▪improve traceability to reduce smuggling.
