Nigeria's Ex-Central Bank Chief Reportedly Fights Court Order to Seize 753 Properties
Ex-Governor Godwin Emefiele has appealed to the Court of Appeal in Abuja, challenging a ruling that ordered the forfeiture of a multi-million-naira property portfolio. Emefiele argues he has legal ownership rights, according to local media.
"I was unaware of the forfeiture," he was quoted as saying, claiming that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) published the notice in a "hard-to-notice" section of a newspaper.
The initial court dismissed his objection, stating the EFCC followed proper legal procedures.
Emefiele is currently facing trial on corruption charges.
