Kenya's Ruto Apologizes to Tanzania Amid Diplomatic Tensions Over Deported Activists

"Our neighbors from Tanzania, if we have wronged you in any way, forgive us," William Ruto said during the National Prayer Breakfast in Nairobi.

What is Ruto apologizing for?

It follows an incident in which three Kenyan activists, including politicians, were denied entry to or deported from Tanzania for attempting to attend an opposition trial. One activist was reportedly arrested, tortured, and abandoned at the Kenyan border — sparking regional outrage.

Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu accused the activists of meddling in internal affairs.

Dar es Salaam has yet to respond to Ruto's apology.
