Africa Charts Its Security Future: ACHOD25 Held in Nairobi
Kenya’s President Ruto called the African Chiefs of Defense Forces Conference 2025 in Nairobi, which gathered military leaders from 38 countries, a "pivotal moment" for the continent.
“It is especially meaningful that this gathering is taking place on African soil only the second time in its history,” he said, highlighting the continent’s growing leadership in defining its own security agenda.
With 60% of Africa’s population under the age of 25, vast reserves of natural resources, and the potential to become the world’s largest workforce by 2050, Ruto emphasized the importance of aligning peace and security with Africa’s economic ambitions.
“True security in Africa must be continental in ambition and collaborative in execution for Africa to thrive. We must deepen our investment in unity [...] as a practical strategy for resilience. Strengthening partnerships among our defense institutions, promoting shared doctrines and strategic alignment, and the championing of Africa-led solutions must remain central to our approach [...].”
