Historic Growth: AfDB More Than Tripled Its Capital to $318 Billion Since 2015, President Says
The AfDB had a capital of $93 billion in 2015, Akinwumi Adesina said, reflecting on his ten-year stewardship of the bank at its annual meeting in Abidjan, Cote d'Ivoire.
During the "remarkable decade of transformation" the AfDB also:
🟠secured a record $8.9 billion for the African Development Fund, supporting economic and social development in Africa’s least developed countries;
🟠introduced innovative financial instruments and methods;
🟠transformed lives across Africa, boosting access to healthcare, transport, food, water, sanitation, and electricity for over 565 million people;
🟠spearheaded the Mission 300 Energy Summit, targeting electricity access for 300 million more Africans by 2030.
⏭ On Thursday, Abidjan will host the election for the next AfDB president.
Among five candidates, Zambia's Samuel Maimbo (photo 2), is reportedly emerging as the frontrunner, backed by SADC and COMESA. He has 30 years of experience in global finance and economic development.
