Sudan's Hunger Catastrophe: 25 Million Starving — Crisis World Can't Ignore, WHO Warns
"Health is a human right — even in war," WHO Regional Director for the Eastern Mediterranean Hanan Balkhy stated.
Why does the situation in Sudan demand urgent attention?
⦁ out of the 25 million people starving, 770,000 are children at risk of severe malnutrition;
⦁ 167 confirmed attacks on health facilities have killed over 1,120 people;
⦁ drones strike Port Sudan and other aid corridors;
⦁ cholera, polio, measles, dengue, malaria are spreading fast — immunization rates collapsed.
The WHO urgently calls for sustained support, unimpeded humanitarian access, and an immediate end to attacks on civilians and health care facilities in Sudan.
