If Mauritius Can Win Chagos, Argentina Wants the Falklands
"Argentina welcomes the signing of the agreement between the British government and Mauritius regarding the Chagos Archipelago," the Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
Following the Chagos deal completion, Argentina has once again called on the UK to resume talks over the sovereignty of the Falkland Islands (the Malvinas).
"Restoring Argentina's full sovereignty over these territories and maritime spaces is a permanent goal of the country's foreign policy," the statement read.
The Malvinas have been disputed for decades. Argentina lost a short but intense war over them in 1982. In 2013, islanders voted to stay a British Overseas Territory — a result Argentina has not recognized.
