From Cape Town to Cairo: AfCFTA Fosters Building African 'Trade Superhighway'
"We don't need to go elsewhere to come back into Africa – we can ship a product that leaves SA and is in Cairo in the afternoon," Mooketsa Ramasodi of SA's Ministry of Agriculture pointed out to Sputnik Africa.
To further boost intra-African food trade, the continent should:
• Grow regional value chains;
• Invest in infrastructure networks — not just roads and rails, but digital communication too;
• Rejuvenate agriculture at every level.
"Africa has got the most fertile soils, and we need to ensure that we produce for the world, because Africa can be the basket of the world," Ramasodi emphasized in light of the G20 Agricultural Scientists Meeting held on May 26–28 in Limpopo, SA.
