ECOWAS Trying to Regain Its Footing With AES
The meeting in Bamako between the two organizations marks the "beginning of a dialogue," Ibrahim Salifou, an international relations expert, told Sputnik Africa.
The AES is gaining momentum in West Africa with its sovereignist governance, free from imperialist dictates.
"In terms of balance of power, ECOWAS is running behind the AES, which is gaining more traction in the sub-region," the expert explained.
It's not too late for ECOWAS to combine efforts by adopting a vision similar to that of the AES, Salifou said.
"ECOWAS must be freed from the regimentation into which it has been plunged by imperialism. Both organizations must share the same vision, one that defends the interests of the people," the expert concluded.
