Celebrated every May 25th, the Africa Day commemorates the founding of the Organization of African Unity in 1963 in Addis Ababa, which was transformed into the African Union in 2002.
Russian President Vladimir Putin has congratulated African heads of state and government on the occasion of Africa Day, reaffirming Russia’s commitment to strengthening ties with the continent in the spirit of a multipolar world.
“Russia has consistently advocated for expanding its traditionally friendly relations with African partners,” Putin said in a message.
He praised the growing role of African nations in global affairs and highlighted the positive impact of multilateral cooperation through the African Union and regional structures.
Putin added that the next Russia-Africa Partnership Forum conference is planned to take place before the end of the year in an African country.
