African Youth Must Seize Digital Narrative for Liberation
Smartphones, cameras, and keyboards can be powerful "weapons of liberation" — if used wisely.
That was the message from Zimbabwe’s Information Minister, Jenfan Muswere, at the International Youth Summit on Land and Economic Freedom.
He pointed to how foreign media often distorts Africa’s image and called on young people to take charge of telling the continent’s story.
“Will they see pride or shame?” he asked, warning that today’s digital record will shape tomorrow’s history.
Muswere also highlighted land ownership as key to true liberation, praising President Mnangagwa’s land reform efforts as a major step forward. He encouraged youth to push back against global misrepresentation and speak up for Africa.
His final message: stop copying the West.
“The era of African authenticity must begin,” he said — calling for bold, original thinking and expression rooted in Africa’s own identity.
