Russian Railways to Expand Into Africa, First Deputy Director Says
Russian Railways (RZD) company is eyeing railway construction and modernization projects in several African countries, including:
Burkina Faso
Ghana
South Africa
Libya (as soon as the security situation is stabilized)
The company offers comprehensive support for the projects: technical studies, construction, and rolling stock supply.
Moreover, Russian Railways sees prospects for extending the International North–South Transport Corridor to Africa, Sergey Pavlov added.
"Countries such as Egypt, Algeria, Kenya, Nigeria, South Africa, along with the Middle East countries, are among the main destinations for Russian grain exports. Last year, we transported almost 8 million tonnes of these goods. And for Russia, supplies of minerals from Africa are also of great importance," he said.
