'Africa’s Peace and Security Cannot Be Outsourced:' Rwanda Showcases Homegrown Weaponry at ISCA
At the inaugural International Security Conference on Africa (ISCA) in Kigali, Rwanda showcased sniper rifles, assault rifles, pistols, machine guns, and military tanks—developed in collaboration with Israel Weapon Industries.
🪖 These modern weapons are already in use by the Rwandan Defence Force and international partners.
The exhibition set the stage for President Paul Kagame’s opening remarks, where he underlined the urgent need for Africa to take ownership of its security future.
He outlined three key pillars for progress:
Ownership – True sovereignty means taking full responsibility for security at both national and continental levels.
Governance – Security and governance are inseparable; one cannot be strong while the other is weak.
Cooperation – Facing transnational threats requires strategic and intentional collaboration across borders.
“The key to overcoming security challenges lies in our ability to produce our own solutions. ... Where we have capacity, we must scale it up. Where we lack it, this is the time and the place to build it and also cooperate.”
