UNESCO Africa Week 2025 Kicks Off With Push for Global Solidarity in Heritage Restitution & Restoration
The 2025 edition reflects "a shared aspiration for historical justice, mutual respect, and strengthened cooperation," VP of UNESCO Africa Samir Addahre stated.
"Restitution is more than returning objects — it's about rebuilding memory, identity, and dignity through education, research, and cultural diplomacy," Moroccan MAP news agency quoted Addahre as saying at the launch.
UNESCO Deputy Director-General Xing Qu and Executive Council President Vera El Khoury Lacoeuilhe reaffirmed the organization’s dedication to protecting African heritage and fighting illicit trafficking in line with the 1970 Convention.
