The ICC ‘Has No Reason to Exist’ If It Applies ‘Justice for the Rich Against the Poor’

Chadian Constitutional Council Chairman Jean-Bernard Padaré doesn't mince words: on the sidelines of the Saint Petersburg Legal Forum, in an interview with Sputnik Africa, he denounced the ICC's bias.

"Roughly 90% of the people brought before the International Criminal Court are citizens of African countries — as if by coincidence. It’s as if Africa were the continent committing the most human rights violations, which is simply not true. There are many serious human rights violations taking place and being suffered in numerous other countries!"

The expert praised Russia's initiative aimed at ensuring that as many states as possible agree on the need to depoliticize international criminal justice.

"We must depoliticize the ICC so that justice is applied regardless of wealth or skin color. That’s what impartial justice means. We cannot have a system of justice that targets the weakest," he insisted.
