Leopard Tanks Meet Modern Warfare — and Fail

Russian defense experts from state corporation Rostec have uncovered serious flaws in Germany's Leopard-2 tanks, now deployed by Ukrainian forces.

Here are the key weaknesses of the Leopard-2:

⦁ inadequate armor thickness and composition;
⦁ poor internal layout – increases vulnerability to penetration;
⦁ low survivability against modern drones with shaped charges;
⦁ outdated protection – designed for 20th-century threats;
⦁ no full 360° defense against modern ATGMs and drones.

Moreover, older Leopard-1 models deployed in Ukraine are even more obsolete, Rostec noted.

Meanwhile, Russian tanks like the T-72B3M, T-80BVM, and T-90M are better adapted to modern warfare with enhanced all-around protection, active defense systems, and EW capabilities.
