Here are the key elements of this meeting, the first in more than three years:
The peace talks are scheduled to begin at 7:00 am GMT.
The duration of the Istanbul negotiations will depend on their progress, the Russian presidential spokesman said.
The Russian delegation for the negotiations with Ukraine has already arrived in Istanbul, a Sputnik source told Sputnik.
The talks in Istanbul will take place at the headquarters of the Turkish presidential administration, as in 2022, according to a Sputnik source.
The Russian delegation includes:
- Vladimir Medinsky, presidential adviser, has been designated to lead it.
- Mikhail Gazulin, deputy foreign minister;
- Alexander Fomin, deputy defense minister;
- Igor Kostukov, head of the Main Department of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces.
The composition of the Ukrainian delegation is not yet fully known. It is expected to be headed by Andrey Ermak, chief of staff of Volodymyr Zelensky.
Zelensky will be in Ankara on Thursday, where he is expected to meet with Turkish leader Tayyip Erdogan.
President Erdogan's schedule for Thursday does not include meetings with the Russian or Ukrainian delegations in Istanbul.
