Ethiopia's Ministry of Transport and Logistics, in collaboration with Ethio telecom, has launched three national digital systems to modernize infrastructure, enhance transparency, and streamline operations across key sectors.
Cross-Country Public Transport System:
A unified digital platform designed to simplify travel by:
🟠 Managing bus ticketing, licensing, compliance, and payments.
🟠 Allowing travelers to book and pay via mobile (in multiple languages) using Telebirr and other financial services.
It reduces delays and prevents fraud while improving data transparency and efficiency.
Integrated Fuel Supply System:
A nationwide digital payment solution for fuel stations that:
🟠 Accepts payments from all banks and mobile wallets.
🟠 Provides real-time data for government monitoring.
It cracks down on illegal fuel trade and ensures accountability and convenience for drivers.
National Traffic Point-Based Penalty System:
Replacing outdated manual processes with a digital enforcement system that:
🟠 Centralizes driver records & penalty payments.
🟠 Tracks violations through a point-based mechanism.
It promotes safer roads and better compliance, reduces bureaucracy, and aids policymaking.
ℹ Developed by Ethiopian private tech firms, these systems are fully integrated with financial institutions via APIs and supported by Ethio telecom’s TeleCloud.
