With this strong call, South Africa's Deputy President Paulus Mashatile launched Africa's Travel Indaba 2025 — an iconic African leisure trade show held in Durban.
The event coincides with Africa Month, a time to reflect on unity and solidarity across the continent, the deputy president pointed out.
"We must choose to explore each other's countries with curiosity and determination. We must choose to invest in each other’s businesses," the official emphasized.
Key statements by Mashatile:
⦁ Tourism contributes 6.8% to Africa’s GDP, with projections to reach 10.4% by 2030.
⦁ In SA, tourism supports over 1.68 million jobs, aiming for 2.2 million by 2030.
⦁ The AfCFTA is expected to boost intra-African travel and tourism investment.
⦁ SA is leading efforts to simplify travel within Africa through visa reforms and better connectivity.
