Mali Slams TV5 Monde With Suspension 'Until Further Notice' Over Biased Reporting
The ban, not the first one, follows accusations that the channel violated Mali's media laws during its May 3 broadcast, which covered an opposition protest in Bamako against the possible dissolution of political parties.
"These violations concern imbalance in the presentation of information, and defamation of the armed and security forces," Mali's High Authority for Communication stated.
In fact, Mali's government repealed the Political Parties Charter this week, not to eliminate parties but to curb their proliferation — there were over 300 registered before the repeal — with a new regulatory law to follow.
In a recent exclusive interview with Sputnik Africa, Burkina Faso's President Ibrahim Traore has condemned Western media for "numbing the conscience of the African people" through "big lies."
