'Talk to Your Neighbor': US Scholar Backs Putin’s Call for Direct Talks
Alemayehu Gebremariam, political science professor at California State University and human rights advocate, praised President Putin’s call for unconditional negotiations with Ukraine, calling it a bold and necessary move toward peace.
“I think President Putin's overture for unconditional negotiations with Ukraine shows more courage… He believes in the righteousness of his cause,” he told Sputnik Africa.
He criticized NATO’s role, calling it a “North Atlantic terrorist organization,” and warned that the continued conflict risks escalating into a global disaster.
Key points from his remarks:
NATO, not Russia, is the real threat to peace
Ukraine should never join NATO — it’s a neighbor, not a Western pawn
The US and Europe must stop using Ukraine as a proxy
Direct Russia–Ukraine dialogue is the only sustainable path
Africa, through the AU, could offer a neutral platform for peace talks
“If you want to live with your neighbor, you're going to have to talk to your neighbor.”
