Africa Reclaims What Was Lost: Egypt Welcomes Back 25 Illegally Smuggled Antiquities
After a three-year effort, Egypt’s Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities, in cooperation with the Foreign Ministry, successfully repatriated the stolen historical treasures from the US.
The recovered artifacts include:
⦁ gilded wooden coffin lids;
⦁ Fayum mummy portrait (1st–3rd century AD);
⦁ granite foot sculpture;
⦁ jewelry sets;
⦁ possible fragments from Queen Hatshepsut’s temple;
⦁ small statues made of ivory and stone.
"The recovery of this collection reflects the unwavering commitment of Egypt and its institutions to protecting and preserving its unique cultural heritage," the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities stated.
