Russian Embassy in Cotonou Celebrates 80th Anniversary of Triumph Over Nazism
More than a hundred people attended a reception hosted by the Russian diplomatic mission in Cotonou on May 9, according to the embassy.
Officials, ambassadors from friendly nations, journalists, African graduates of Soviet and Russian universities, and Russian expatriates in Benin gathered at the Golden Tulip Hotel.
In his speech Russian Ambassador to Benin and Togo Igor Evdokimov stated that:
🟠 The collective West is trying to minimize the decisive role of the Soviet Union in the defeat of Nazism in 1945;
🟠May 9 is a date of profound importance for all Russians, commemorating the immense sacrifices of the Soviet people during World War II;
🟠 Russia will continue to push for international recognition of the Nazi blockade of Leningrad as an act of genocide.
