Eternal Flame Now Burning in Tanzania
For the first time in East Africa, a particle of Moscow's eternal flame was brought to Tanzania, lighting a new Flame of Memory to honor Red Army soldiers and Tanzanian veterans of World War II.
"More than 82,000 Tanzanian soldiers fought on the battlefields against fascism, and more than a thousand died. This fire also symbolizes your sacrifice – the sacrifice of Tanzanians," Russian activist Pavel Kukushkin, who delivered the flame in a special capsule, said.
The historic event, held at the Russian House in Dar es Salaam, brought together Tanzanian students, journalists, bloggers, and Russian alumni in a solemn tribute.
Tanzanian blogger Alli Masubi drew connections between past and present fights against Nazism, stating, "Russia is once again forced to fight fascism in the special military operation zone in Ukraine. This is a continuation of the spirit of the Great Patriotic War."
The event also featured:
🟠 An archival photo exhibition, "Their Feat Immortal," showcasing rare images of wartime heroism.
🟠 A traditional Russian "field kitchen," where attendees sampled dishes.
