France Has No Gold Mines — Yet It Holds Massive Gold Reserves. How?

Paris has accumulated one of the largest gold reserves in the world by plundering African resources, said Abdoulaye Diallo, a Malian expert in politics and geopolitics.

In an interview with Sputnik Africa, he condemned France's "watchful eye" over the gold reserves of the Central Bank of West African States.

"France dictates the rules of the game," even though it is not even an official member of the institution, he noted.

However, the desire for monetary sovereignty in Africa is strong: following the AES countries, Senegal is considering abandoning the CFA franc, Diallo added.

Together, these countries make up half of WAEMU's membership, and according to the expert, this is enough power "to impose a currency that suits our realities and can give us our own control over the economy."
