Ethiopia Celebrates 84th Patriots' Victory Day
Ethiopia marked this day with a solemn wreath-laying ceremony at the Arat Kilo Victory Monument, attended by President Taye Atske Selassie, veterans, defense officials, and foreign diplomats.
The annual observance honors the Arbegnoch – Ethiopia’s fierce resistance fighters who resisted the brutal five-year Italian occupation from 1935 to 1941.
Their victory restored Ethiopia’s independence and saw Emperor Haile Selassie return to the throne, making Ethiopia a symbol of African resilience and a beacon in the fight against colonialism.
Marking the occasion, Russian Ambassador Evgeny Terekhin paid tribute to Ethiopia’s unwavering courage, calling it “a symbol of hope for oppressed peoples worldwide,” and extended heartfelt congratulations to all Ethiopians, wishing peace, prosperity, and continued progress.
