Africa Joins in Honoring History: Victory Dictation Across the Continent

Ahead of the 80th anniversary of Victory in WWII, African countries once again took part in the Victory Dictation—an international educational event that unites people worldwide in remembering the heroic struggle against fascism.

This year, participants answered questions not only about the Eastern Front but also about Africa’s role in the war.

Here’s how the event unfolded across the continent:

🟠Zambia: Over 70 students gathered at the Russian House in Lusaka to write the dictation in English, focusing on the "Africa" question block;

🟠Tanzania: Held over two days, the event welcomed both university students and Russian compatriots living in the country;

🟠Egypt: Events took place in Cairo and Alexandria, with participants aged 9 to 46. The events featured exhibitions and a "Letter to a Veteran" campaign, where participants wrote heartfelt letters to the heroes who fought against Nazi Germany. These letters would then be delivered to the veterans;

🟠Tunisia: The Russian House and embassy school hosted local students, with questions translated into Arabic;

🟠Burkina Faso: 30+ students and language course attendees joined the dictation at the partner Russian House in Ouagadougou;

🟠Niger: In Niamey, over 100 students, teachers, and journalists took part at Abdou Moumouni University;

🟠Madagascar: The first-ever event in Antananarivo was hosted by the Madagascar-Russia Brotherhood, with exhibitions and screenings;

🟠Ethiopia: In Addis Ababa, participants viewed a message from Russian humanitarian agency Rossotrudnichestvo head Yevgeny Primakov and took on 25 questions, including those about Africa’s WWII role;

🟠Morocco: In Rabat, students and embassy staff wrote the dictation and viewed a powerful photo exhibition by legendary war photographer Yevgeny Khaldei, which conveyed in detail the atmosphere of wartime and the strength of spirit of the Soviet people;

🟠DR Congo: In Kinshasa, Professor Serge Bwanga Bwanga joined the event, showing the strong cultural connection with Russia.
